Why shredded veal or pulled veal?

Veal is a great nacho topper. Not to mention, it packs so much flavor in each nacho bite. It pairs so well with the BBQ sauce and each topping you choose to throw on. The best part about these nachos is that you can make them your own. Add any toppings that you like the best.

Veal cooks very fast, and this is no different in the slow cooker. Cook the veal stew meat about 3 hours on high or 5-6 on low, it comes out fork tender and is easily shredded. Don’t be intimated if this is your first time cooking with veal! Its just as easy as other proteins and is delicious too.

Some simple tips

You can sear the meat to give you even better flavor! Start by searing the stew meat before you throw it in the slow cooker. After topping the tortilla chips with the shredded veal, beans, and cheese, place them in the oven to melt the cheese. You can even do this with the veal, beans, and cheese before putting it on the warmed chips to avoid sogginess.

  • 1.5 lbs. veal stew meat
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • Olive oil
  • 2 cups beef stock (or enough to cover the meat in the slow cooker)
  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • Sweet and spicy BBQ sauce or your preferred
  • Tortilla chips
  • BBQ beans, canned
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Garnishes: Jalapenos, chopped tomato, sour cream, guacamole

  1. Season the stew meat with garlic powder and onion powder. Warm a skillet on the stove with a little bit of olive oil over medium heat. Once the skillet is warmed, sear the seasoned veal stew meat on each size.
  2. Once the stew meat is prepared, place in the slow cooker and add the beef stock and Worcestershire sauce over top. Once this is done, set the slow cooker to low for 5-6 hours or on high for 3.
  3. Once the veal stew meat is fork tender and easily shredded, remove from the slow cooker and combine with BBQ sauce of your choice when you are ready to serve. You can even try our Homemade Sweet and Savory BBQ Sauce here!
  4. When building the nachos layer the chips, shredded veal, beans, and cheese to warm in the oven. Garnish the whole dish or serve with garnishes on the side! Garnish ideas: Jalapenos, chopped tomato, sour cream, guacamole
