Traditional burgers are great—but sometimes it’s fun to mix it up! These cheeseburger pockets bring a cozy, creative twist to a familiar favorite. Add a side of veggies or fruit, and you’ve got a well-rounded, kid-friendly meal that’s anything but boring.

Ingredients

1 Tbsp. olive oil

1/2 pound ground veal

1/4 tsp. garlic powder

1/4 tsp. onion powder

1 can buttermilk biscuits (8 biscuits)

Flour for work surface

2 slices yellow American cheese

1 Tbsp. mayonnaise

1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

1 egg

Sesame seeds for garnish

Dipping sauce— 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 Tbsp. ketchup, 1 Tbsp. Sweet pickle relish, 1/4 tsp. garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Heat the skillet, Pour olive oil into a large nonstick skillet and heat over medium heat. Add the ground veal to the skillet. Using a spoon, break it into small pieces as it cooks.
  3. Sprinkle in salt, pepper, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp onion powder.
  4. Once the veal is fully cooked and browned, transfer it to a large mixing bowl. Stir in 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise and 1/2 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce until the meat is evenly coated. Set aside.
  5. Lightly dust your surface with flour. Using a floured rolling pin, roll out each biscuit into a 5-inch circle. Place 1/4 of a slice of American cheese in the center of the dough. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the veal mixture over the cheese.
  6. Pinch the edges of the dough together to completely seal the filling inside. Flip each one over and place seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Continue assembling the remaining biscuits, cheese, and meat mixture.
  7. In a small bowl, beat 1 egg. Lightly brush the tops of each sealed pocket with the beaten egg. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  8. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake at 350°F for 18–20 minutes, or until the pockets are golden brown. Let them cool slightly before serving. Pair with your favorite dipping sauce, if desired.
